Founded by ex-Ulster rugby players Louis Ludig and Schalk van der Merwe with a vision to create wines that are as bold and unapologetic as their name suggests, Hellbent Wines began as a small-scale winery in a region renowned for its exceptional terroirs. The winery’s journey started with a singular goal: to craft wines that express the raw, unfiltered essence of their surroundings. From the very beginning, the focus was on producing wines that tell a story—wines that speak to the character of the vineyards, the soil, and the people behind them.
The west-facing vineyards are situated on decomposed granite and Table Mountain sandstone soils at an altitude of approximately 224 metres above sea level on the estate. The grapes were hand-harvested in March.
On the nose, fresh and vibrant scents of elderflower, ripe pear, pineapple, and white peach.
The palate reveals a light-bodied, crisp wine with lively acidity, offering a summer blend of apricot, passion fruit, green bell pepper, and a subtle hint of blackcurrant leaf.
Pairs beautifully with fresh seafood dishes like grilled prawns or a tangy goat cheese salad. Its crisp acidity also complements sushi and ceviche.
