Woodstock Shiraz is the hero variety of the region, sourced from the estate’s own vineyards and neighbouring sites in Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale.

This unofficial sub-region has a distinct microclimate, with cooler temperatures, greater airflow and slightly higher rainfall than the surrounding area. The rolling sand dunes feature deep sandy soils at the top of the slopes and clay at the base. These conditions encourage vine roots to grow deep into moisture-retentive subsoils, helping them to thrive through the hot summer months. Combined with the milder climate, this allows for slow, even ripening of Shiraz, producing wines of balance and elegance.

The Deep Sands Shiraz is crafted with a traditional approach. Grapes were fermented on skins for at least five days, with twice-daily pump overs to enhance colour and flavour. The wine was then pressed off skins and matured mainly in stainless steel to retain freshness, with a small portion aged for up to 12 months in seasoned oak for added complexity.

Brilliant crimson in colour, the wine shows a vibrant bouquet of cherry and plum. The palate is earthy and generous, layered with fleshy red fruit, white pepper spice and soft, rounded tannins. Bright and elegant, this Shiraz will reward careful cellaring for five to ten years.

A fine match with char-grilled lamb served with red wine jus and wilted baby spinach, or with a platter of cured meats and smoked cheddar.
