Weinrieder Gruner Veltliner Ried Schneiderberg

The Schneiderberg vineyard is located in the heart of Austria’s Weinviertel, the country’s largest wine-producing area. This region, situated north of Vienna and bordering the Czech Republic, is known for its rolling hills and distinct microclimates that provide ideal conditions for Austria’s key grape varieties, especially Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The vineyard benefits from its specific soil composition—predominantly loess and gravel—which imparts a distinct minerality and freshness to the wines. The loess soils retain water well, essential in a region that can experience both warm, dry summers and cold winters, giving the vines deep-rooted strength and resilience.

Weinrieder, founded by the Rieder family, places great emphasis on sustainable and careful vineyard practices. In Schneiderberg, the vines are managed with minimal intervention, allowing the characteristics of the vineyard to speak through the wine. Harvesting is done by hand, and the grapes are meticulously sorted to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. In the winery, Weinrieder employs gentle pressing and slow, temperature-controlled fermentation to preserve the natural aromas and flavours of the grapes. This attention to detail helps the wines retain their acidity, vibrancy, and complexity.

Grüner Veltliner from Schneiderberg displays aromas of green apple, white pepper, and citrus, with a mineral edge that brings structure and depth. On the palate, these wines are fresh and vibrant, with a balance of fruit and acidity that makes them versatile in pairing and enjoyable both young and with age.

Grüner Veltliner’s peppery, crisp profile complements dishes like Wiener Schnitzel, roasted vegetables, or creamy pasta. It’s also well-suited to Asian dishes where the wine’s acidity and minerality cut through the spice.
