Terrazze della Luna is produced by Cavit, a renowned co-operative that brings together over 5,000 growers across 6,350 hectares in Trentino, northeast Italy. Founded in 1950, Cavit has become the region’s leading producer, responsible for around 60% of Trentino’s wine production. Their central winery at Ravina di Trento is complemented by historic and specialist sites like Maso Toresella and Cantina Altemasi. With deep ties to the local terroir and a long-standing partnership with the San Michele all’Adige Oenological Institute, Cavit remains committed to showcasing the best of both native and international varieties, with Marzemino a particular standout.
Cavit’s sustainability credentials are extensive. For over twenty years, they have followed the “Protocol for the Production of High-Quality Wines in Trentino”, are certified under the SNQPI system, and are members of SEDEX. All energy used is from renewable sources, supported by three photovoltaic plants on site. ISO 14001:2015 certified, Cavit also developed PICA — a pioneering precision agriculture platform that enables real-time, data-driven decisions in the vineyard to minimise waste and optimise sustainability across all aspects of viticulture.
Marzemino is indigenous to Trentino and here the grapes are hand-harvested from hillside vineyards in the Vallagarina valley near Isera, Mori, Volano and Nomi. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 6–8 months in stainless steel to preserve freshness and varietal purity. No oak is used, allowing the natural fruit and herbal character of the grape to shine, supported by soft tannins and bright acidity.
On the nose, there’s vibrant cranberry, wild strawberry and floral notes. The palate is light to medium-bodied, juicy and pure, with flavours of red cherry, raspberry and a subtle herbaceous edge. Its balance of freshness and softness makes it both elegant and highly drinkable.
A fantastic choice for grilled meats, cured charcuterie or simple pasta dishes, this wine also lends itself to being served lightly chilled. Suitable for vegetarians and made with a sustainable, low-intervention approach, this is a charming lighter red with authenticity and flair.
