Sauska Furmint Tokaj

Founded in 2003 by husband-and-wife team Krisztián and Andrea Sauska, Sauska was created from a shared belief that Hungary was capable of producing world-class wines that truly expressed its unique terroirs. Beginning in Tokaj before later expanding into Villány, the winery combines Krisztián’s precision and analytical approach with Andrea’s creative vision. Today, Sauska is recognised for crafting elegant, expressive wines that balance innovation with deep respect for Hungary’s winemaking heritage.

High above the vineyards, the Sauska winery overlooks the volcanic landscapes of Tokaj, where mineral-rich soils shape wines of remarkable freshness and complexity. Sustainability and biodiversity are central to the estate’s philosophy, with no chemicals or herbicides used on selected vineyard parcels. Wildlife is actively encouraged through strategic planting, traditional straw mulching is used for weed control, and collected rainwater is reused for irrigation, helping to maintain healthy, self-sustaining vineyard ecosystems.

This wine opens with refreshing citrus aromas layered with mint, white peach and white pepper. The palate is juicy and crisp, revealing notes of pear, orange peel and nectarine. Ageing on lees brings texture and depth, adding smooth brioche and yeasty notes to the long, elegant finish.

A versatile food wine, it pairs beautifully with roast duck, pork dishes or grilled lobster, where its freshness and texture shine equally well.

Awarded 92 points by James Suckling, who described it as “lively and tense” with notes of peaches, candied lemon, beeswax and honeysuckle.
