Produced by Viña Montes, a winery renowned for its commitment to quality and sustainability, this vintage showcases the expertise of winemaker Aurelio Montes Sr. The wine is a blend of 92% Carmenère and 8% Petit Verdot, sourced from the Apalta and Marchigüe vineyards in the Colchagua Valley, regions known for their unique terroirs and ideal grape-growing conditions.

Montes has been a pioneer in sustainable viticulture, achieving B-Corp certification in 2024, reflecting its dedication to environmental and social responsibility. The winery employs dry farming techniques, gravity-flow winemaking, and water recycling systems to minimize its ecological footprint. While not certified organic, these practices underscore Montes’ commitment to sustainable agriculture.

The wine is characterized by its deep brick-red hue and intense aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, and blueberry. Purple Angel 2021 has garnered significant acclaim, receiving 97 points from James Suckling, who praised its “fabulous fruit and an underlying firm tannin structure”.  Wine Spectator awarded it 94 points, highlighting its “concentrated core of mineral-accented berry and damson plum flavours”. Additionally, Tim Atkin rated it 97 points, describing it as “the best Purple Angel since 2016”
