Midleton Very Rare Irish Chestnut Edition

Midleton Very Rare Irish Chestnut Edition is a world-first Irish whiskey finished in Irish sweet chestnut hogshead casks, using wood sourced from the historic Cappoquin Estate in County Waterford. Nearly a decade in the making, this exceptionally rare release combines Midleton’s renowned whiskey-making tradition with a unique Irish wood finish, creating a distinctive expression of Irish provenance and craftsmanship. Aged between 17 and 24 years, it is bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered.

The nose is rich and decadent, with honey-drizzled red apple and caramelised orange peel alongside melted chocolate and toffee fudge. Woodland spices of nutmeg, cinnamon and sandalwood add warmth, while rich nutty notes bring a savoury complexity.

The palate is full-bodied and textured, combining sweet orchard fruits and citrus with vanilla, chocolate shavings and soft wood tannins. Pot still spices build gradually, bringing freshly crushed pepper and a gentle chilli oil prickle, balanced by delicate herbal notes.

The long, lingering finish sees the fruit slowly fade, leaving the distinctive pot still spices and Irish chestnut wood to take centre stage.
