After years of research into barrel finishes for rye whiskey, Michter’s is proud to present this release of its US★1 Toasted Barrel Rye.

The whiskey begins as US★1 Kentucky Straight Rye, which is then transferred at barrel strength into a second custom barrel for further aging. This finishing barrel is crafted from wood air-dried for 24 months and toasted to Michter’s precise specifications. The result is a singular rye expression with added depth and complexity. Each barrel is bottled at its natural proof, with the average strength for the September 2023 release being 108.9 proof (54.45% ABV).

This release opens with aromas of toffee, honey, black walnut, and a hint of campfire smoke. On the palate, it delivers a decadent mix of dark chocolate, salted caramel, cherry, and mint. A warm spice character runs through, supported by a rounded oak presence on the long, balanced finish
