Marqués de Riscal Reserva is one of Rioja’s most iconic wines, celebrated for its rich history, consistent quality, and its influence on famous figures such as Ernest Hemingway, Salvador Dalí, and Frederick Forsyth. This timeless wine has been adored by wine lovers across the globe for generations, becoming a true benchmark for Rioja reds and reaching over 100 countries.
Made primarily from tempranillo vines planted before the 1970s, Marqués de Riscal Reserva comes from the best clay-limestone soils of Rioja Alavesa. The addition of a small percentage of Graciano enhances the wine’s freshness and vibrant colour. Its perfect balance of acidity and tannin makes it ideal for ageing in oak and bottles. After fermentation with a short maceration period, the wine spends around two years in American oak barrels and at least one year in the bottle to refine its complexity.
The wine presents a deep, intense black-cherry colour. On the nose, it offers a mix of aromas—liquorice, cinnamon, black pepper—intertwined with subtle hints of oak from its cask ageing. On the palate, it’s fresh, smooth, and easy to enjoy, with a solid structure and refined tannins. The finish is long-lasting, with balsamic notes that reveal the wine’s exceptional quality.
Marqués de Riscal Reserva pairs beautifully with a variety of foods, including ham, mild cheeses, casseroles, and bean-based dishes. Its elegance makes it suitable for both casual meals and more refined dining occasions.
