Leefield Station Stockman Syrah is a vibrant expression of Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley. Sourced from a warm mesoclimate on the river terraces of Leefield Station, the Syrah benefits from extended hang-time and ideal ripening conditions.
Leefield Station, part of Marisco Vineyards, reflects a holistic vision of modern farming. Owned by Brent and Rosemary Marris, this historic property is both a working farm and a thriving vineyard. With a focus on sustainability, biodiversity, and family legacy, Leefield Station represents the best of Marlborough, combining winemaking excellence with deep respect for the land.
Winemaking at Leefield Station reflects both precision and patience. Hand-harvested fruit was cold-soaked before fermentation in open-top tanks, with a total of two weeks on skins. The wine was then pressed into a mix of new and seasoned French oak puncheons for malolactic fermentation and aged for 20 months, undergoing several rackings to refine tannins before blending and bottling.
On the nose, this Syrah opens with vibrant black and red berry aromas, lifted by cool mint and dried herbs. The palate is dry yet fruit-forward, with fresh acidity and silky tannins lending balance and structure. A whisper of chocolate lingers on the finish, making this a poised, elegant wine with a distinct Marlborough signature.
This wine will pair perfectly with anything off the grill, such as the simple richness of a rib-eye steak; equally it will be delicious with a smoked aubergine, tomato and butter bean stew.
