Domaine Lapierre is a legendary name in Beaujolais, rooted in the village of Villié-Morgon since 1909. Founded by Michel Lapierre and passed down through generations, the estate saw a turning point in 1973 when Marcel Lapierre, inspired by winemaker and scientist Jules Chauvet, chose to return to more natural methods of winemaking. Marcel’s children, Mathieu and Camille, now carry the family torch with the same passion and dedication, combining deep tradition with modern sensibility. The estate spans 18 hectares, mostly within the Morgon appellation, and is known for its purity of expression and vibrant, honest wines.
The vineyards are planted exclusively with Gamay Noir à jus blanc, on poor, acidic granite soils that are ideal for the variety. With an average vine age of 15 years and a planting density of 10,000 vines per hectare, the estate keeps yields in check through traditional goblet pruning. All work in the vineyard is done by hand, and great care is taken during harvest, often done in two passes to ensure only the best fruit is selected. This is truly hands-on, respectful viticulture, shaped by decades of observation and understanding of the land.
Domaine Lapierre was among the earliest adopters of organic practices in Beaujolais. No chemical fertilisers or herbicides are used, and in the cellar, vinification is carried out without added yeasts or sulphur during fermentation. The estate follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, with fermentation in the traditional Beaujolais style of semi-carbonic maceration. Wines are aged briefly in tank and bottled with only a small addition of sulphites and no filtration, allowing the wine to speak for itself, unmasked.
This Gamay is bursting with juicy red fruit, full of energy and freshness. It’s intensely aromatic, showing vivid notes of cherry, raspberry and a hint of violet, with a purity and brightness that are unmistakable. The light extraction and short maceration give the wine a supple texture and thirst-quenching charm. It’s a joyful, expressive wine meant to be enjoyed young, while its fruit is still lively and generous.
A perfect match for charcuterie, grilled sausages, roast chicken, or even a lightly chilled glass with a picnic. Its brightness and lift also make it a great partner to creamy cheeses or mushroom-based dishes. Whether shared at a casual lunch or alongside a more thoughtful dinner, this wine brings a relaxed elegance to any table.
