Langmeil Winery itself is one of the Barossa Valley’s most historically significant producers. Established on the site of one of the region’s original village wineries, it is home to the Freedom 1843 vineyard—believed to contain the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in the world. Family-owned and operated, Langmeil is known for preserving old-vine heritage and combining it with contemporary winemaking standards.
Their winemaker, Paul Lindner, has been instrumental in crafting wines that express both varietal purity and regional identity. Under his guidance, the winery has earned a reputation for elegant, expressive wines with minimal intervention—a style reflected beautifully in the Three Gardens white, made from, Viognier Marsanne Roussanne is a distinctive white blend from the Barossa Valley, South Australia.
This wine reflects both the region’s Rhône-style innovation and the estate’s deep-rooted commitment to quality and sustainability. The Three Gardens blend brings together Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne—occasionally with a touch of Clairette in some vintages—to produce a vibrant, medium-bodied white wine that balances aromatic richness with freshness and finesse.
On the nose, the wine opens with expressive aromas of fresh lime, citrus zest, apricot and white peach, underpinned by floral notes of honeysuckle and subtle ginger spice. The palate is smooth and rounded, offering generous stone fruit flavours with a creamy texture derived from partial oak maturation. There’s a soft thread of oystershell minerality and gentle spicing, which adds length and complexity to the finish.
Tasting notes from critics highlight nuances of apricot nectar, marzipan, cashew, and nougat, with the 2024 vintage even evoking hints of lime custard tart as it begins to show early development. It is a highly approachable wine, praised for its texture, balance, and aromatic character.
It pairs beautifully with a range of dishes—from fresh seafood and shellfish (like scallops, prawns or crab) to poultry, grilled fish, and creamy risottos. It also works well with soft cheeses such as chèvre or Brie and makes an excellent match for mildly spiced Asian cuisine, such as Thai green curry or lemongrass chicken.
