Killowen Distillery sits at the foot of the Mourne Mountains in County Down, where traditional methods and local craftsmanship come together to create distinctive Irish spirits. Founded by Brendan Carty, one of the leading voices in Ireland’s craft distilling revival, Killowen is dedicated to resurrecting historic Irish whiskey styles through time-honoured production techniques. The distillery’s flame-fed copper pot stills and rare worm tub condensers produce richly characterful spirits that reflect both the heritage and future of Irish whiskey.

This Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey is distilled from 100% peated malt and initially matured in bourbon casks before being divided and finished separately in Killowen’s own Dark Rum casks and PX Sherry casks. Sourced from Great Northern Distillery in County Louth and finished at Killowen, the whiskey combines the smoky character of peated malt with the rich influence of both cask types. The PX Sherry finish contributes layers of dried fruit, while the rum casks add sweetness and tropical complexity.

The nose and palate offer a compelling balance of peat smoke and cask influence. Rich notes of prunes, figs and raisins from the PX Sherry casks intertwine with tropical flavours of coconut, vanilla and soft caramel from the dark rum casks. The smoky malt character remains at the core, adding depth and structure, while the finish is long, warming and beautifully integrated.
