Founded in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy’s most respected family-owned wine houses, renowned for crafting wines that express the individuality of each terroir with elegance and authenticity. Through a combination of traditional winemaking and meticulous vineyard management, the Drouhin family continues to showcase the character of France’s finest appellations.
Brouilly is one of Beaujolais’ most celebrated crus and the largest in the region, with vineyards planted on the steep slopes surrounding Mont Brouilly. The varied soils of granite and alluvial sediments provide ideal conditions for Gamay, producing wines of freshness and aromatic complexity. Grapes are harvested by hand and undergo traditional Beaujolais semi-carbonic maceration using whole bunches, with maceration lasting between four and ten days. The wine is then matured in stainless steel tanks for 10 to 12 months to preserve its purity of fruit and vibrant character.
The 2021 vintage displays a bright ruby-red colour with subtle purple reflections. Aromas of violet, lilac, blackberry and cranberry lead into a palate bursting with ripe red berries, peach and redcurrant. Light tannins and lively acidity provide structure and freshness, while delicate floral notes, orange peel and hints of spice carry through to a mineral-tinged finish. Elegant and approachable, it delivers the vibrant charm for which Brouilly is renowned.
A versatile food wine, it pairs beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken, grilled pork, duck, mushroom dishes and soft cheeses. Its freshness also makes it an excellent companion to lighter Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
