Jean-Marc Gilet Vouvray Les Perruches Sec

Jean-Marc Gilet is a dedicated and highly regarded winemaker in the Vouvray region. His vineyards are situated on some of the finest parcels of land, where he practices sustainable farming methods to preserve the health of the land and the purity of the fruit. Gilet’s approach to winemaking is rooted in a deep respect for the environment, and he strives to produce wines that truly reflect the character of his vines and the surrounding terroir.

In his Vouvray Les Perruches Sec, Gilet uses the traditional winemaking techniques of the region, combining them with a modern sensibility to create wines of exceptional balance and elegance. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks, preserving the freshness and fruitiness of the Chenin Blanc grape, while allowing the minerality of the terroir to shine through.

The Vouvray appellation lies in the heart of France’s Loire Valley, specifically in the Touraine region. Known for its diverse terroir and climate, Vouvray has been producing wines for centuries. The region benefits from a combination of limestone-rich soils and a temperate climate, allowing for a slow, even ripening of grapes and the development of complex aromas and flavours.

Chenin Blanc, the principal grape of Vouvray, is a versatile variety that can produce a wide range of wine styles. From dry and crisp to rich and sweet, Chenin Blanc reflects the winemaker’s interpretation of the grape, along with the nuances of the terroir. Jean-Marc Gilet’s Vouvray Les Perruches Sec is a dry expression of this variety, showcasing the purity and minerality that Vouvray is renowned for.

The nose is immediately engaging, with aromas of green apple, pear, and citrus, along with subtle floral notes. There’s a refreshing hint of white peach and a mineral edge that hints at the limestone soils from which the wine originates.

On the palate, the wine is dry, crisp, and refreshing, with a zesty acidity that is balanced by a rich texture. The fruit flavours of apple and pear continue to dominate, while the minerality and slightly savoury undertones provide depth and complexity. The finish is clean, with lingering citrus notes and a touch of wet stone that perfectly encapsulates the essence of the Loire Valley’s terroir.

A perfect companion for seafood, such as oysters, scallops, or grilled fish. It also pairs beautifully with goat cheese, a classic match for wines from the Loire Valley, or lighter poultry dishes, like roast chicken or turkey.  For something a little more adventurous, the wine also complements dishes with a bit of spice, such as Asian cuisine or spicy Mediterranean fare.
