The Hinch Peated Single Malt is a bold and robust expression from Hinch Distillery Co., located just south of Belfast on the scenic Killaney Estate. Named after the nearby town of Ballynahinch—meaning “town of the island” in Irish—the distillery blends craft tradition with innovation, aiming to carve a distinct identity within the Irish whiskey category.
This single malt is matured in a carefully selected combination of ex-Bourbon American oak, Madeira, and Oloroso Sherry casks. The result is a full-flavoured, peat-forward whiskey that balances smoky intensity with layered complexity.
On the nose, it opens with aromas of ashy smoke from a seaside bonfire, followed by earthy coal dust and subtle heathery notes. A sweetness reminiscent of charred pineapple rises through the smoke. The palate is immediately bold and smoke-driven, where smoked rock salt and cracked black pepper are enveloped in velvety honey. Rich dark chocolate adds depth and roundness to the experience. The finish is lingering, with sweet smoke clinging to the palate and chocolate notes lasting until the next sip.
