Founded by ex-Ulster rugby players Louis Ludig and Schalk van der Merwe with a vision to create wines that are as bold and unapologetic as their name suggests, Hellbent Wines began as a small-scale winery in a region renowned for its exceptional terroirs. The winery’s journey started with a singular goal: to craft wines that express the raw, unfiltered essence of their surroundings. From the very beginning, the focus was on producing wines that tell a story—wines that speak to the character of the vineyards, the soil, and the people behind them.
The grapes have been grown in the vineyards for over 300 years, starting not long after the Dutch East India Company first began producing wine in the Cape.
The palate is fresh but mouth filling with flavours of ripe apple, mango and nectarine.
Pairs wonderfully with roasted chicken, creamy seafood pasta, or soft cheeses like brie. Its vibrant acidity also balances dishes with spice, such as Thai or Indian cuisine.
