Almost more like Hermitage Syrah than Barossa Shiraz, with its floral, spicy nose and complex nuances of allspice, sloes and Sichuan pepper. Purple plums and juicy black cherries follow, with silky texture and lively acidity. Fine and long with savoury, spicy, oaky notes on the finish. Drink 2017-2030+
Deep garnet-purple coloured, the 2014 Amon-Ra Shiraz has a youthfully mute nose, offering glimpses at the blackberry, blackcurrant and liquorice core, plus suggestions of dark chocolate, cigar boxes, fertile earth and baking spices. The full-bodied palate delivers concentrated, muscular blackberry and earth flavours with plenty of freshness and a beautiful backbone of finely grained tannins, finishing with commendable persistence and layers. This is a great contender for wine of the vintage!
