Farnese Fantini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Fantini is the flagship label of Farnese Vini, based in Ortona on Abruzzo’s Adriatic coast. Founded in the 1990s, the winery quickly gained international recognition for producing high-quality wines that reflect both local character and modern finesse. Working closely with a network of small growers, Fantini crafts wines that speak of the land, tradition, and vibrant Italian culture. Their dedication to excellence was recognised when they were named Best Italian Boutique Winery—a testament to their quality-focused, small-scale production ethos.

Sustainability is more than a buzzword at Fantini—it’s part of their everyday practice. While not all wines are certified organic, the team places a strong emphasis on low-intervention farming, working with growers who use environmentally respectful methods. Their goal is long-term vineyard health and minimal environmental impact, ensuring the land continues to thrive for future generations.

This Montepulciano is made from hillside vineyards in Abruzzo, where the grapes benefit from ideal sun exposure and cooling sea breezes. After careful selection and soft pressing, the wine is fermented with the skins to extract rich colour and flavour, followed by a short period of ageing to soften tannins and enhance its naturally plush profile.

In the glass, this wine is a deep ruby red, with aromas of ripe cherry, plum, and a gentle touch of spice. The palate is medium-bodied, smooth and fruit-driven, with balanced acidity and soft, approachable tannins. It’s the kind of wine that’s easy to enjoy but offers enough complexity to keep things interesting.

Fantini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is made for the table. It pairs beautifully with pasta in rich tomato sauces, grilled lamb, or mature cheeses. It’s also a great match for Mediterranean-style vegetable dishes or a midweek pizza. In short, it’s a dependable and versatile bottle that brings a little bit of Abruzzo to every meal.
