Domaine des Herbauges, Muscadet Sur Lie, La Roche Blanche

Domaine des Herbauges is a renowned winery located in the heart of the Loire Valley; a region celebrated for its exceptional white wines. Specializing in Muscadet, the winery is known for its commitment to quality and sustainability, producing wines that exemplify the terroir of the region. Among its standout offerings is the Domaine des Herbauges Muscadet Sur Lie, a wine that captures the essence of the Melon de Bourgogne grape and the influence of the Atlantic climate.

Founded in the early 20th century, Domaine des Herbauges has established itself as a key player in Muscadet production. The estate is currently managed by winemaker Jérôme Choblet, who continues his family’s tradition of crafting wines that balance tradition and innovation. The vineyard’s location near the Lac de Grandlieu provides a unique microclimate that enhances the aromatic complexity and minerality of the wines.

Muscadet Sur Lie is a style of white wine made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape, a variety known for its bright acidity and mineral-driven profile. The term “Sur Lie” refers to the aging process in which the wine remains in contact with the lees (yeast sediments) for an extended period. This technique imparts additional texture, complexity, and freshness to the wine, resulting in a more expressive and balanced profile.

Pale straw yellow with hints of green. Fresh citrus fruits, green apple, and subtle floral notes, complemented by a slight briny character. Crisp and lively acidity with flavours of lemon zest, pear, and a touch of white peach. The lees aging adds a slight creaminess, enhancing the wine’s depth and mouthfeel. It has a long, clean, and refreshing finish with lingering minerality.

Domaine des Herbauges Muscadet Sur Lie is an incredibly versatile wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes such as oysters, mussels, grilled fish, and scallops, creamy cheeses such as goat cheese or Brie complement the wine’s acidity.
