Jean-Pierre Large has been at the helm of his family domaine in Chiroubles for over 36 years, crafting wines of character and elegance while preserving the joyful spirit for which Beaujolais is known. Set in the heart of the Cru village, the estate spans 26 hectares across 100 granite-rich parcels, ideal for Gamay. The ancient cellars, originally part of a 17th-century Cluniac priory, continue to age the domaine’s wines, reflecting a deep respect for both heritage and terroir.
Sustainability is at the core of Jean-Pierre and his wife Christina’s approach. The vines are cultivated with great care and respect for the environment, ensuring their health for future generations. The Domaine is certified by Terra Vitis and holds HVE Level 3 status, reflecting a deep commitment to responsible and environmentally conscious viticulture.
This Chiroubles, produced from 24 hectares of south and south-east facing slopes, is the epitome of a refined yet approachable Beaujolais. Winemaking is traditional: one third of the grapes are de-stemmed, with whole bunch fermentation over ten days and regular pigeage. Natural malolactic fermentation follows, with four months of ageing in stainless steel to retain freshness and vibrancy.
The nose is aromatic and expressive, with delicate floral perfume and juicy red fruits—cherries, fresh strawberries and ripe bramble—lifted by a gentle touch of spice. The tannins are smooth and understated, offering structure without distraction. There is notable depth here, beautifully balanced by a lively, energetic style.
Best served lightly chilled at 12–13°C, this is a true “vin des copains” – effortlessly convivial and ideal for sharing. It pairs beautifully with saucisson, charcuterie, tomato-based chicken dishes, or rich, crumbly goat’s cheese such as Charolais.
