d’Arenberg, a distinguished family-owned winery in McLaren Vale, South Australia, is celebrated for its innovative winemaking and commitment to environmental sustainability. Established in 1912, the winery has garnered numerous accolades, including being named Winery of the Year by Wine & Spirits Magazine USA.
In 2016, d’Arenberg achieved certification for organic and biodynamic practices across all estate-owned and leased vineyards, underscoring their dedication to sustainable viticulture.
d’Arenberg’s “The Money Spider” is a distinctive Roussanne hailing from the McLaren Vale region of South Australia. The name “Money Spider” originates from the inaugural 2000 vintage, when the vineyard was found teeming with tiny “Money Spiders,” traditionally considered a sign of good fortune. Choosing not to disturb these beneficial arachnids, the vineyard was left unsprayed, leading to the wine’s unique moniker.
This wine presents a luminous straw hue with a hint of yellow. Elevated aromas of honeydew, rockmelon, preserved lemon, and macadamia greet the nose. The palate is concentrated with layers of melon, yellow peach, and macadamia, offering a creamy texture complemented by focused acidity, underscoring its dense and powerful profile. Exemplifying complexity and balance, this wine is a sophisticated expression of its varietal.
The balanced acidity and rich texture of “The Money Spider” make it a versatile companion for various dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with spicy cuisine, grilled seafood, and roasted vegetables. The wine’s robust flavors complement the heat and complexity of spicy dishes, while its acidity cuts through the richness of seafood and roasted vegetables, enhancing the overall dining experience.
