Creu Celta and Terra Sagrada represent a new generation of winemaking in Priorat, emerging from the distinctive and cooler Salanques ‘climat’. Established by the McAlindon family, the vineyard lies in a remarkable viticultural setting known for its rugged beauty and slate-rich Llicorella soils. These conditions challenge the vines, but in return yield deeply concentrated, expressive fruit that forms the foundation of long-lived, complex wines.
Creu Celta is a celebration of the traditional grapes of Priorat—primarily Garnacha from vines over 70 years old, supported by plantings of Samsó (Carignan) and Syrah made possible through carefully created terracing. Garnacha brings vibrant red fruit and spice, while Samsó contributes structure and colour. Syrah, though not native, adds a layer of dark fruit and savoury depth, enhancing the wine’s complexity.
Made from 95% Garnacha and 5% Carignan, this wine reveals an enticing bouquet of dark chocolate, cracked black pepper, ripe cherry, and raspberry, intertwined with aromatic pine and a subtle, savoury minerality that speaks to its unique terroir. On the palate, it is rich and layered, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a lingering finish that balances fruit intensity with earthy complexity.
This wine pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as grilled lamb, roasted game birds, or rich mushroom risotto, where its vibrant fruit and complex spice complement the depth and intensity of the food.
“92/100. Violets and red fruit on the nose, hints of blackcurrants. Lovely integration and certain silkiness on the palate, mineral finish.` – (Decanter World Wine Awards 2024)
