Chateau Penin Natur

Château Penin is a historic family-run estate in Entre-Deux-Mers, founded in 1855 and now led by fifth-generation winemaker Patrick Carteyron. Since taking over in 1982, Patrick has expanded the vineyard to 50 hectares, focusing fully on high-quality, terroir-driven wines. In 2011, he added to the family legacy by acquiring Château La Fleur Penin, a small Grand Cru vineyard in Saint-Émilion.

Sustainability is central to the estate’s work. Château Penin is certified under the High Environmental Value (HVE) program, which promotes biodiversity, protects natural resources, and ensures good working conditions. Each wine is carefully made from specific plots, using grape varieties and techniques that best suit the land.

Château Penin Natur is a 100% Merlot made without added sulphites, showcasing the grape in its purest form. Grown on sandy soils that lend elegance and freshness, only the healthiest grapes are selected. First made in 2008 as an experimental cuvée, it reflects the estate’s passion for clean, expressive winemaking without additives.

The wine is aged on its lees with regular stirring to develop texture and protect against oxidation. Kept at low temperatures and lightly filtered before bottling, it maintains a fresh, fruit-forward character with no compromise on quality.

On the palate, it’s juicy and smooth with bright blackcurrant and cherry flavors, fine tannins, and a gentle hint of spice. Long and balanced, this is a vibrant, modern Merlot that’s easy to enjoy. It pairs well with grilled vegetables, tomato-based pasta, roast chicken, or pork tenderloin, and works beautifully with vegetarian dishes.
