Château Chasse-Spleen has a fascinating history that goes back to the 18th century. It started as a small estate but gradually gained a reputation for producing high-quality wines, particularly after it earned the Cru Bourgeois classification in 1932. The estate covers around 90 hectares, with a variety of soil types that add depth and complexity to its wines. The name “Chasse-Spleen,” meaning “Chasing the Blues,” reflects the poetic inspiration of Charles Baudelaire, who is believed to have found peace and inspiration in the estate’s serene surroundings.
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot
“Aromas of cedar, leather and tobacco, with fruity undertones. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Fruity, with a light, fresh herb aftertaste.” – Wine Spectator 2007
Château Chasse-Spleen 1996 pairs beautifully with a variety of hearty dishes. Its structure makes it an excellent match for rich options like braised lamb shanks, beef bourguignon, or duck confit. It also complements earthy mushroom risottos or a selection of aged cheeses, such as Comté or Roquefort, elevating any dining experience.
