Bertha’s Revenge Navy Strength Gin

Bertha’s Revenge Navy Strength Gin is crafted by Ballyvolane House Spirits Company, a small-batch distillery nestled on the grounds of Ballyvolane House near Castlelyons, Co. Cork. Founded in 2015 by Justin Green and Antony Jackson, the distillery embraces a “grass to glass” philosophy that reflects its roots on a former dairy farm known as “the place of the leaping heifers.” With deep ties to the land and a passion for artisanal craft, Ballyvolane combines years of hospitality and wine experience to create unique, flavourful spirits.

This navy strength gin has an ABV of 57.1%, with a carefully adjusted botanical blend that brings forward pronounced, vibrant flavours. It offers a powerful yet smooth character, balancing a bold spice profile with refined complexity. Bertha’s Revenge is best enjoyed sipped over ice or as the robust foundation for classic gin cocktails like the Gimlet.

The term Navy Strength harks back to the days of the Royal Navy, when spirits at approximately 57% ABV were standard issue to sailors. This strength was crucial, as the high-proof alcohol ensured that gunpowder soaked in spilled spirit would still ignite, a vital safety measure on board warships. Irish sailors, including notable figures like Vice-Admiral Sylverius Moriarty from County Kerry, were an integral part of this naval tradition.

Bertha’s Revenge Navy Strength Gin celebrates this rich maritime heritage, marrying history with modern craft distilling. The gin captures both the strength and smoothness expected of a navy strength spirit, all while telling the story of Ballyvolane’s fertile lands, passionate creators, and their beloved cow Bertha.
