Bellevue Estate is a family-run farm with deep roots in South Africa’s wine heritage. Known for its pioneering spirit, the estate rose to prominence in the 1950s when P.K. Morkel boldly planted Pinotage on a commercial scale—helping to establish the variety as a national icon. Today, Bellevue remains dedicated to innovation and quality, with the same forward-thinking philosophy guiding every vintage.
This Chenin Blanc comes from a Certified Heritage Vineyard planted in 1976, where low-yielding bush vines thrive in sandy loam soil on a southern slope. With rows strategically aligned north-south, the vineyard benefits from optimal sun exposure and cooling breezes.
The wine is fermented with a mix of barrel fermentation (one-third) and tank fermentation (two-thirds), with three to four months of lees contact to enhance texture and complexity.
On the nose, it offers alluring aromas of white pear blossoms, followed by rich stone fruit flavours of peach, nectarine, and apricot. The palate is elegant and dry, with a crisp acidity that balances the fruit and adds to its overall freshness.
This Chenin Blanc pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes. Consider it alongside fettuccine Alfredo or a rich carbonara. It also complements grilled seafood, such as shrimp or scallops, and pairs beautifully with soft cheeses like brie or goat cheese.
