Áster was founded in Ribera del Duero after extensive soil studies identified the Anguix and La Horra areas of Burgos as exceptional sites for producing wines of character and quality. After acquiring old vineyards in 1993 and several years of experimentation, the winery released its first vintage in 2000. Today, Áster is recognised for crafting expressive, terroir-driven wines that showcase the power and elegance of Ribera del Duero, with fruit sourced from estate vineyards surrounding the winery.
Produced exclusively from 100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo), the grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery. Following 15 days of fermentation and maceration, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels with weekly bâtonnage for 60 days. It is then aged for 16 months in French oak, 75% of which is new oak, adding complexity and structure while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Very deep in colour with a bright black cherry hue and intense ruby rim, the nose is highly complex, combining ripe black fruits and wild berries with notes of liquorice, clove, black pepper and toasted oak. Rich and powerful on the palate, it is balanced by smooth tannins and fresh acidity, leading to a long, layered and persistent finish.
An excellent match for roast lamb, suckling lamb and game birds, while also pairing beautifully with poultry, fish stews, rice dishes and mature cheeses.
