Comte de Gironde is a historic winery located in France’s renowned Bordeaux region. Owned by the Comin family for over a century, the estate spans approximately 50 hectares across three municipalities within the Entre-Deux-Mers appellation. In 2003, stewardship of the winery transitioned to one of the Comin daughters and her husband, who have since managed the vineyards and winemaking operations.

The estate’s vineyards are planted on clay and limestone soils, ideal for cultivating grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc for their white wines, and Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for their reds. The winemaking team at Comte de Gironde is dedicated to capturing the essence of the Entre-Deux-Mers region, blending modern vinification techniques with traditional practices to produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of Bordeaux.

The vineyards of Comte de Gironde are situated predominantly on clay and limestone soils, typical of the Entre-deux-Mers region. This terroir contributes to the unique character of their wines. The winemaking process is carried out in stainless steel tanks, allowing for the preservation of the grapes’ natural flavours and aromas. Notably, their wines undergo no oak aging, emphasizing a fresh and authentic expression of the fruit.

One of the notable offerings from Comte de Gironde is their AOC Bordeaux 2020. This wine is a Merlot-dominated blend, comprising 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A charming, fruity Merlot-dominated blend, with defined blackberry fruit, lifted, lighter red berry notes on the palate and a finish with great harmony, balance and lovely supple tannins.

Pair with lamb, beef, or roasted pork it also complements semi-hard cheeses like Comté or aged cheddar.  Also ideal with coq au vin, cassoulet, or mushroom-based dishes.
