Old Comber Blended Irish Whiskey

The Echlinville Distillery has built a reputation for reviving some of Ireland’s most historic whiskey brands, combining traditional craftsmanship with a deep respect for local heritage. Located on the Ards Peninsula in County Down, the distillery is dedicated to restoring the region’s place at the heart of Irish whiskey production. Alongside the successful revival of Dunville’s Irish Whiskey, Echlinville has brought the legendary Old Comber brand back to life after an absence of almost 70 years, honouring one of the great names of Irish whiskey history.

Originally founded in 1825, Old Comber was once among Ireland’s most celebrated whiskeys, produced at the Comber Distilleries just ten miles from where Echlinville stands today. Following the closure of the distillery in 1953, the brand disappeared until its recent revival. This release pays tribute to the original style of Old Comber, combining pot still and grain whiskeys matured in American oak and bourbon casks before being finished in ruby port and sherry casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, it captures the rich, full-bodied character that made Old Comber famous.

The nose opens with soft orchard fruits, red apples and ripe pear, alongside notes of baked plum pudding, vanilla crème anglaise and warming nutmeg. The palate is rich and creamy, revealing layers of red berries, madeira cake trifle, baked plums, cinnamon and vanilla, complemented by sweet toffee apple, toasted almonds and gentle winter spices. The finish is long, smooth and satisfying, with notes of cream soda, raspberry, cherry Bakewell tart, ginger cake and vanilla cream fading into mellow oak and sweet spice.
