Creencia Monastrell

Hammeken Cellars was founded by Nicholas Hammeken, whose passion for wine led him to create a successful Spanish wine exporter with a global reach. Since launching their first own collection in 2001, the company has grown steadily, now producing modern, fruit-forward wines that blend Spanish grape traditions with New World techniques. Hammeken Cellars champions lesser-known regions and varieties, aiming to elevate Spanish wines worldwide with quality and style.

The estate’s philosophy focuses on combining Spanish local grape traditions with modern winemaking styles to create fresh, approachable wines. Their commitment to quality and integrity shines through their selection of lesser-known regions and grape varieties like Monastrell.

Creencia is made from 100% Monastrell grapes sourced from ungrafted vines over 35 years old, grown at 700 to 900 metres altitude in Jumilla’s dry, stony soils. Harvested by hand in early October, the fruit is carefully handled to preserve its vibrant character. The wine spends six months aging in 100% French oak barrels, which add subtle complexity while retaining the grape’s intense fruit and fresh acidity.

This wine shows a deep, intense dark red colour with vibrant ruby rims. The nose is rich and layered with black cherries, dry figs, dried tomatoes, rosemary honey, and hints of freshly roasted coffee beans. The palate is beautifully balanced, with refreshing acidity, firm ripe tannins, and a long finish of cooking herbs and black pepper that lingers.

Creencia pairs well with robust dishes that match its depth and spice. Serve with grilled lamb, hearty stews, or spicy sausages to complement its herbal and dark fruit notes, making for a memorable and versatile food experience.
