Rooted in the heart of Marlborough, Curious Kiwi celebrates New Zealand’s vibrant identity, drawing inspiration from the kiwi bird — a national icon and enduring symbol of independence and originality. Named in honour of the “Kiwis” of World War I, whose emblem featured the bird proudly, the label reflects a spirit of discovery that’s captured in every bottle.
Behind the wine is Marisco Vineyards, an award-winning, family-owned estate established by Brent Marris — one of Marlborough’s most respected winemakers. With a portfolio that includes The Ned, The Kings’ Series and The Craft Series, Marisco is deeply rooted in the region’s winemaking history. Brent and his family remain committed to sustainable farming, innovation in the cellar, and preserving the character of their vineyards.
This expressive Gewürztraminer is crafted from grapes grown in Marlborough’s sun-drenched vineyards, where silty soils with loamy top layers and excellent drainage provide ideal conditions for aromatic whites. Hand-harvested during the cool of night to preserve freshness and delicate aromatics, the grapes undergo a carefully balanced fermentation — with two-thirds in stainless steel to capture vibrant fruit character, and one-third in seasoned French oak to enhance texture and depth. Extended ageing on fine lees adds a subtle creaminess and roundness, resulting in a wine of both intensity and finesse.
The resulting wine is brilliantly clear with a straw-gold hue. Aromas of ripe banana, lychee, rose and honey leap from the glass, while the palate bursts with exotic fruits like mango and passionfruit, complemented by soft spice and a crisp, elegant finish.
Ideal as an aperitif, it also pairs beautifully with Asian dishes — from spicy Thai curries to Peking duck — as well as soft cheeses and fresh, aromatic salads.
