Tinpot Hut Pinot Gris

Crafted with precision and passion by winemaker Fiona Turner, Tinpot Hut Pinot Gris is a shining example of the elegance and purity Marlborough’s Blind River sub-region can produce. Fiona established her Home Block vineyard in 2003, in the remote and windswept landscape of Blind River, now renowned for producing some of the region’s most expressive wines. Named after a historic mustering hut in the area, Tinpot Hut connects the land’s pastoral heritage with its modern-day winemaking excellence.

Sourced exclusively from Fiona’s Home Block vineyard in the Awatere Valley, the fruit is harvested at optimum ripeness and quickly pressed with minimal skin contact to preserve delicate aromatics. The juice undergoes a cool fermentation in stainless steel using an aromatic yeast strain, helping to highlight the variety’s lifted aromatics and fresh fruit profile.

Fiona Turner and the Tinpot Hut team are committed to sustainable viticulture. Their vineyards are managed with a strong focus on environmental care, including responsible water use, biodiversity preservation and minimal chemical input. Certified under New Zealand’s Sustainable Winegrowing programme, Tinpot Hut ensures that every bottle reflects not only the character of the land but a deep respect for its future.

Pale straw yellow in colour, this wine boasts fragrant aromas of spice, pear and stone fruit, with underlying notes of brioche and freshly cut spring flowers. The well-rounded palate balances fresh pear, stone fruit and nutmeg with a vibrant acidity for a mouthwatering finish.

This Pinot Gris is a versatile companion at the table. Its aromatic richness and balanced acidity make it a perfect match for creamy cheeses, fresh seafood, and light dishes with Asian or Middle Eastern spice. Try it with grilled scallops, Thai green curry, or a pear and blue cheese salad for a beautifully harmonised pairing.

“Delightfully fruited and elegantly fragrant, the wine shows Nashi pear, rockmelon, Gala apple and white floral nuances, followed by a finely flowing palate that’s juicy and beautifully rounded. Harmonious and smooth with a lingering, succulent finish.”
